We're extremely proud to offer our You Rock trophies in the reward shop at Maths Circle, they mark a huge step forward in meeting our eco goals. We had a difficult task in deciding how we would produce trophies in the most sustainable way possible. We found that most trophies were made of nasty plastics and are mass-produced overseas - exactly what we wanted to avoid.
When tackling the problem, we decided to start from the very beginning, “What should the trophy be made of?” Our initial thought would be recycled plastics. Plastics are readily available, durable, easy to mould and very lightweight, however, as we looked into it, the process of recycling plastics appeared complex and expensive. It’s not something we’d be able to offer on a small scale. The result of having looked into something so complex was clear: to keep it simple.“Let’s just use wood, it’s inherently sustainable”.
It’s 100% Renewable - As we use FSC and PEFC certified oak, a tree is planted every time another is cut down. It’s reusable, recyclable, recoverable and bio-degradable.
It Stores Carbon Dioxide - With responsibly managed forests, trees are planted to remove C02 from the atmosphere, and the carbon remains stored in the wood after it’s harvested.
Reduced Carbon Footprint - Less energy is required to produce wood products than other materials.
