PRODUCT OVERVIEW:The DOC of Rosso Piceno is located in the Marche - the calf of the boot - between Emilia-Romagna and Abruzzo. It is a bit off the beaten path for many wine consumers, but you, our savvy customers, know this is where the bargains can be found! Indeed, Rosso Piceno has all the building blocks to bring forth great wines: a continental climate, hillside vineyards that offer excellent sun exposure and good drainage for the vines, and clay-based soils that keep the vines cool and grow grapes that strike the perfect balance between ripe fruit and acidity.Cantina Numa is owned and operated by Cristina Fausti and the enologist Domenico Angelo. They bought the property in 1997, planted new vines in 1998, and in 2010 completed their conversion to organic farming.* Their holdings are small - only 10 hectares, which allows them to lavish plenty of care and attention on their vines. The 2021 “Tolenus” is a blend of 70% montepulciano and 30% sangiovese that will beguile your senses with aromas and flavors of blackberries, black cherries, and black raspberries. Unoaked in order to display the wine's intense fruit profile, it is medium-to-full-bodied and silky-smooth, with layers of vanilla and brambly earth that add complexity not commonly found in a wine at this price point. Polished tannins and bright acidity bring it to a long finish.
