Product description

Deep purple to brown polished hues, depending on the light. This rare UR-103.08 TiAlN is like nothing you have seen before! One piece in nearly new condition has landed in our Pre-Owned collection.
The UR-103 is a crucial part of URWERK's history, a model which secured our standing in the world of high-horology and a design which has become a true classic in our lineup. We proudly present one of the most sought-after and rare versions, the UR-103 TiAlN.
What is TiAlN? Titanium Aluminum Nitride. A treatment well-known in the industrial industry for its exceptional properties. A TiAlN coating that is less than 4 microns thick and has the effect of multiplying the resistance of the underlying metal to scratches, shocks, oxidation and even acids. Applied to tools when machining metals to guarantee the tool head is harder than the material to be machined. Harder than DLC and has a Vickers rating of 3500. To put it into context, steel is only 600 Vickers, and sapphire is 4000. The purple/brown tones are created from how the Titanium and Aluminium are mixed; the result is a first in the watch industry. Now 15 years old, initially released in 2007, this limited edition proceeds with the black URWERK look we are now synonymous with. You now have a second chance to add the UR-103.08 TiAlN to your collection.
The 103's iconic satellite complication displays the hours on four orbiting satellites that travel along the minute track from east to west like the sun. Turn the case over to reveal the control board with a power reserve indicator, 15-minute and seconds dials for precise time settings, and a user-adjustable fine-tuning screw, to adjust the watch's rate if running fast or slow. As with all our Pre-Owned collections, the watches are fully serviced and refurbished. We also add a brand new strap, an original URWERK box and a new Pre-Owned international warranty for two years.
Creators Thoughts:
Felix Baumgartner - "Working for years at/and with Gros atelier (our genius case maker artisan), I discovered extremely sharp machining tools with a strange colour! After research, I found out where they are made and for what. The machining coating is made without needing oil to strengthen the tool to protect it. This is from where this treatment comes, so no design, a purely technical treatment (All PVD used in watches have primarily a design goal and are not applied in the tooling industry)
Martin Frei - “Next to the slightly sharper 70’s cut of the U-shaped Targa crystal, the UR-103 TiAlN finally, and for the first time, got an exotic protection coating for its futuristic case. I have always dreamed of darker or even black coloured watches. The shape of any object looks so different and beautiful in a dark colour, and it always vexed me that it was not possible to work with the full palette of colours and gradations. Then we discovered the extraordinarily striking dark violet copper coating used to protect our drilling tools. We instantaneously decided to create a watch using the Titanium-based TiAlN coating to transform our UR-103 case into a stunning, out-of-the-ordinary-looking contemporary timepiece."
Condition Rating UR-1: As new, with no or very few signs of wear, the movement is serviced and in working condition.
