Product description
In this bright and colorful 8.5" X 11" 42-page children's book, written in a fun and catchy rhyming format, young readers will learn from Alfred the Ape who knows a lot about shape!
In fact...
"He learned all about them, in art class in school. Now he draws them and colors them and thinks they're pretty cool! He'd love to tell you everything he has learned so sit back and relax as the pages are turned..."
As an elementary art teacher, I noticed that books on SHAPE are often geared toward very young children. They focus on teaching the names of simple shapes and stop there.
After researching the math standards for kindergarten through second grade and incorporating that with the art standards, I wrote a book that would not only teach the names of shapes but so much more.
With Alfred the Ape Knows His Shapes, children will

Know that a shape is created from an enclosed line
Learn the difference between two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional forms
Understand what makes organic shapes different from geometric shapes
Learn the names of geometric shapes and how to recognize them
Grasp vocabulary such as sides and vertices

All in a rhyming format that will help them retain their shape-based knowledge!
As an art teacher of 25 years, I have always found children learn best when the learning is fun. With that goal in mind, I wrote Alfred the Ape and know that the children in your life will have fun learning while reading this book.
Art teachers educate their students on the Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Color, Form, Value, Texture and Space. My first children's book Larry the Line was about, you guessed it, LINE! This second book is the next in my series on the Elements of Art: SHAPE! And, yes, Larry the Line makes a guest appearance.
Just like in my book Larry the Line, Alfred the Ape Knows His Shapes also includes a bonus page with shapes and their names to serve as a printout for young artists.
So whether you are a parent, grandparent, or guardian of a child eager to learn this important element of art or a classroom teacher looking for an engaging way to introduce students to SHAPES, I know you will love Alfred the Ape Knows His Shapes!
