I always presumed it was an impersonator doing Michael Jacksons voice. Looking it up for this it turns out I was wrong..  despite it being credited as John Jay Smith it was actually Michael Jackson, with an impersonator Kipp Lennon doing the singing parts due to contractual obligations Jackson had with his record company. So Its Kipp Lennon singing Happy Birthday Lisa!
