The Municipal Monoprint Canvas Project celebrates the shitty and the pretty of letters, colors and patterns inspired by cities we love. Glyphs from our Municipal font collection overprint the gutter-level ornamentation of the street. Each original canvas crops in on the communal color combos of asphalt, steel, concrete and iron in all of their beautiful hues of oxidation.

“MONOPRINTS, simply put, are original pieces of artwork. Instead of using the screen printing production tools to make many, I make only one. Letterforms and layered ink have always been two popular muses at House Industries. This experiment took A-Z of our Municipal shadow alphabet and patterns to canvases. To create something compelling, I printed the entire composition on the floor (the largest work surface in the House Factory Studio allows me to respectfully dishonor the laser quality of our fonts). The canvas was then cut into individual panels to reveal their individual personalities.”
