The Forge nylon monster brushes are big, bold and loud. For more thump than a regular stick and not for the faint hearted.
Hot rods were developed for drummers who want a lighter sound than regular sticks, but with more attack than brushes.
More recently brushes with plastic or nylon wires have become very popular. Their sound is noticeably more subdued, duller and warmer when sweeping, and when striking the drum more plasticky.
